Conditions were ideal for this year’s race which may well explain the good turnout – 42 paddlers participated. Local clubs Tynemouth, Wansbeck, Coquet, Hexham and Blyth fielded 31 paddlers while this year there were only 3 from Scotland as there was a clash with another event.
Fastest Ski was Andy Morton from the Ancient Mariner age group and the Kirkcaldy club at 47.04 minutes. Fastest sea kayak was David Steel in the Grand Old Man of the sea age group and the Borders club in a Cetus MV at 51.40 minutes. Fastest Coquet club member was Richard Sill in the Old Man of the Sea age group in a Tahe Marine Reval at 59.10 minutes. Jack Henderson of the Tynemouth club competed the course in the oldest category – King of the Sea – at the age of 93.
Thanks to all the helpers. Next year’s race will be on June 13th.
