Annual circumnavigation of Holy Island

On June 14th the Club sea kayakers had their annual outing to Holy Island. Conditions were not ideal with a Force 4 wind and a fairly big swell from the North so five people took up an option to just paddle round the South of the island.

Those circumnavigating found that there was no gap in the surf North of the causeway – the first time this has happened on a Club outing. It resulted in four swimmers but in reasonably shallow water and there were no problems getting everyone back in their boats.

Four participants successfully passed their Sea Kayak Award assessment on the trip. This is thanks to club leaders and coaches making plenty of time for gaining experience and practising rescues on sea kayak outings through the winter. Well done all!

The day always ends with a barbecue on the beach by the harbour because there are a couple of hours to wait before the causeway opens.
