Friendly seals and rescue practice

Sunday’s sea kayak outing was to Coquet Island on a fairly calm day with an offshore wind. The seals were being as friendly as they always are at Coquet Island – even though we gave them plenty of room because they are pupping now. Conditions were pretty flat outside the harbour but got more interesting as we rounded the South West corner of the island. We stayed beside the island to practice rescues – shown in the title image and the one below the seals – where the person holding their paddle just above the water is practising a self-rescue re-entry roll. Getting back into the harbour was hard going with the tide going out and a gusty wind against us.
