Dolphins in the harbour entrance

Wednesday evening’s group paddling round the island had the rare treat of watching a pod of dolphins in the harbour entrance. Sadly the photo above (by Margaret Ranken) doesn’t do justice to the experience. We sat outside the harbour watching them jumping passing and re-passing in front of us for quite a while. They disappeared as we paddled through and then came back once we’d passed. Presumably they are feeding on salmon and sea trout starting their journey upriver to spawn. It was a calm night and the estuary was mirror calm by the time we got back to Shorebase. Photos below by Kaye Cantley.
