A sunny Sunday in February

Last Sunday the club had three groups of paddlers taking advantage of the great weather. There are some pics and a video from two of them below – while there was also an afternoon outing up the Coquet estuary from Shorebase when the tide came over the weir.

The sea group went round Coquet Island (photo above Davy Jackson) on a day of light winds. There were a few waves rolling in which led us to keep well away from the rocks – and we were also giving the seals plenty of room while the pups are still young. A fishing boat was laying creels around while we were there. Then we landed on a mainland beach for coffee – no-one is allowed to land on Coquet Island – before paddling back to Shorebase

The river runners had a lovely meander from Haydon Bridge to Hexham today along the way we saw: dippers, ducks, egret, oyster catchers, heron, and snowdrops. Ali provided some of her excellent coaching. Photos and video John Snowdon.
